Daylight Saving Time Begins in March, Affecting Night Shifts

Daylight saving time will begin in the United States on Sunday, March 9 at 2 a.m. and alter the work schedules of certain employees working on that day.

Employees working overnight shifts on March 9 might have one less work hour for that shift than others because clocks will advance by one hour. As a result, employees working these shifts will not have worked from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.

The federal Fair Labor Standards Act does not require employers to compensate employees for the lost hour of work resulting from daylight saving time, although employers may voluntarily do so. ...
