Delaware’s training and youth subminimum wages are to be eliminated under a bill (H.B. 88) that was signed Sept. 30, 2021, by Gov. John Carney (D) and is effective Dec. 29, 2021.
The youth wage and the training wage allow employers to pay workers who are younger than 18 and workers who are at least 18 but who are in their first 90 consecutive days of employment an amount that is 50 cents less than the minimum wage.
Currently, the state’s hourly minimum wage is $9.25, with an $8.75 youth wage and training wage.
