Denmark Abolishes Public Holiday

Denmark will abolish its Common Prayer Day public holiday, starting with 2024, under a March 6 law.

The law (Danish) changes the status of the holiday, which falls on the fourth Friday after Easter, to a normal working day.

If employees’ working hours increase as a result of the change, those paid a fixed salary are entitled to a supplement of one day’s pay, or 0.45% of their annual salary, the law said. The supplement can be paid with salaries paid for May and August or continuously each month, and may be prorated for workers who terminate their employment.
