A Shreveport, La., dental clinic violated federal law by placing a Black employee on unpaid leave and later firing her for complaining about being asked if she attended a Black Lives Matter protest.
The decision Monday is a rare case in which direct proof of bias or retaliation is found and reaffirms that a workplace complaint doesn’t need to be based on actual discrimination to be shielded under the law.
