Regulations for a 2024 act that extended UK paternity leave eligibility in situations where the birth or adoptive mother dies were published March 13 and take effect at the start of the new tax year April 6, the country’s Department for Business and Trade said.
The Bereaved Partner’s Paternity Leave Regulations 2026 implement the Paternity Leave (Bereavement) Act 2024 and allow unpaid paternity leave of up to 52 weeks in those situations without requiring an employee to meet a length-of-service requirement. Maternity leave and adoption leave do not have a length-of-service requirement.
