Germany Increases Cleaners’ Minimum Wages

Two of Germany’s hourly minimum wages for cleaners increased Oct. 1 and are to increase again in 2024, two ordinances from the country’s labor ministry said.

The ordinance (German) from the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs increases the hourly minimum wages to 13 euros (US$12.85) or 16.20 euros, up from 11.55 euros or 14.81 euros.

The two groups of cleaners affected by the minimum wage increases are broadly divided into interior cleaners, who receive the lower minimum wage, and exterior and external glass cleaners, who receive the higher minimum wage.
