Hawaii Aligns Enforcement of Wage-Hour, Wage Payment Laws

Hawaii’s wage and hour law and wage payment law are subject to the same penalties and enforcement mechanisms, under a bill that went into effect on May 29.

SB 1454 modifies the state’s wage and hour law, which contains the Hawaii’s minimum wage and overtime requirements. The modifications duplicate provisions of the state’s wage payment law, which the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations said in testimony will streamline and standardize its enforcement of the two separate laws.
