Hawaii Releases 2024 Temporary Disability Wage Base, Deductions

Hawaii’s taxable wage base for its temporary disability insurance program will rise to $1,374.78 from $1,318.48 effective Jan. 1, 2024, according to a publication released by the Labor and Industrial Relations Department on Dec. 1.

The wage base is a weekly maximum taxable amount instead of an annual one.

To fund a temporary disability insurance plan, employers may deduct half the premium cost but no more than 0.5% of the employee’s weekly wage. For calendar year 2024, employers may not deduct more than $6.87 per week, according to the publication. Employers are liable for the rest of the plan’s cost. ...
