India Updates Central Sphere Minimum Wages Effective April 1

The minimum wages for employees in India’s central sphere increased effective April 1, the country’s Ministry of Labour and Employment said March 27.

The range of daily minimum wages is 336 Indian rupees (U.S. $4.86) to 772 Indian rupees (U.S. $11.17), up from 321 Indian rupees (U.S. $4.64) to 738 Indian rupees (U.S. $10.68), the ministry said in a minimum wage order.

The minimum wage for the central sphere does not represent a nationwide minimum wage, but instead applies to establishments directly under the authority of the Indian government, such as railways, mines, oil fields, ports, and other corporations ...
