Iowa’s withholding certificate was updated for 2024 following changes to the state’s income tax laws earlier in 2023, the state revenue department said Dec. 13.
The 2024 Form IA W-4, Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate, expresses allowances as a dollar value instead of a number. Employees add up and report a total allowance stated in dollars when filling out the form, similar to the federal Form W-4. The change comes from SF 565, which among other changes to Iowa’s withholding provisions “replaced ‘number of allowances’ with ‘amount of allowances’ to be in line with federal withholding,” the department said ...
