A guide to electronic filing for the 2021 tax-processing year was released Oct. 6 by the Internal Revenue Service.
The 194-page Publication 4164, “Modernized e-File (MeF) Guide for Software Developers and Transmitters Processing Year 2021,” outlines the communication procedures, transmission formats, business rules, and validation procedures for returns filed electronically through the Modernized e-file System.
The publication includes updated information for transmitting forms of the 94x series, which includes Forms 940, 941, 943, 944, and 945.
