Draft instructions for filing the federal unemployment tax return were released Sept. 17 by the Internal Revenue Service.
The instructions are to be used with the 2020 Form 940, Employer’s Annual Federal Unemployment Tax Return, to report annual federal unemployment tax liability. A draft version of the 2020 Form 940 was issued June 24.
The instructions list the U.S. Virgin Islands as the only potential credit-reduction jurisdiction for 2020. The draft instructions were not otherwise substantially revised from the instructions issued for 2019.
Final instructions are expected to be released in November.
