Maine employers with more than 10 employees must offer earned paid leave under a bill signed May 28, 2019, by Gov. Janet Mills (D).
The measure (L.D. 369) is to take effect on Jan. 1, 2021.
Covered employees would accrue one hour of paid leave from a single employer for every 40 hours worked, up to 40 hours in a 12-month period. Accrual would start at the time of employment, but employers do not have to grant the leave until a employee has worked more than 120 days.
