Maine’s hourly minimum wage will rise to $13.80, and the minimum wage for service employees will increase to $6.90 effective Jan. 1, 2023, a state labor department official said Nov. 9.

The number of tips an employee must receive to be considered a service employee will also increase in 2023 under state law. Effective Jan. 1, 2023, employees must customarily and regularly receive at least $175 a month in tips to be considered a service employee, up from $100 a month in tips for 2022.
