Maine is strengthening the enforcement authority of its Bureau of Labor Standards and will require employers to notify employees of labor violations, under a bill expected to take effect July 14.
LD 1587 allows the bureau to investigate employers it believes have violated Maine’s employment laws, which cover rest breaks, minimum wage, wage payment, and child labor requirements, among others. The bureau may examine employer records, issue subpoenas, and take testimony during its investigation.
