Maryland Delays Family-Leave Program for Third Consecutive Year

Maryland is delaying the start of its family-leave insurance program for the third consecutive year under a bill that will go into effect June 1.

Employers and employees must begin paying family-leave insurance contributions Jan. 1, 2027, under HB 102. Previously, family-leave contributions were scheduled to begin July 1, 2025.

The bill requires the Maryland labor department to determine the total contribution rate for calendar year 2027 by May 1, 2026. For future years, the department will annually announce the rate for the following year by Nov. 1.
