Maryland Updates Withholding Guide for Standard Deduction

Maryland’s withholding guide was updated Feb. 3 by the state comptroller’s office to correct the minimum and maximum standard deduction in effect for 2020.

The minimum standard deduction value used in the percentage method is to be $1,550 for 2020, up from $1,500, and the maximum $2,300, up from $2,250. However, when the guide was first released Dec. 14, only the values for the annual payroll period were updated to reflect the new standard deduction, while the values for other payroll periods were not. The revised guide updates the standard deduction for the remaining payroll periods.
