Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a new minimum wage law on Feb. 21 that took effect immediately, overhauling court-ordered minimum wage increases that were to begin taking effect the same day.
SB 8 raises Michigan’s hourly minimum wage to $12.48 from $10.56 effective Feb. 21. The rate will increase to $13.73 for 2026 and to $15 for 2027. Starting in 2028, the minimum wage will be subject to annual inflation-based increases, but they will not go into effect if the state’s unemployment rate for the prior calendar year was at least 8.5%.
