Minnesota to Require Use of State Withholding Form

Minnesota is to require use of the state withholding certificate starting in 2020, the state revenue department said in a new version of the form released Dec. 19.

Employees must fill out the 2020 Form W-4MN, Minnesota Employee Withholding Allowance/Exemption Certificate, any time they fill out the 2020 federal Form W-4, the department said in the revised form’s instructions.

If the employee has submitted a federal Form W-4 from 2019 or earlier, the number of allowances on the form may be used to calculate state withholding, the department said. If an employee must complete Form W-4MN and does not, ...
