Minnesota Unemployment-Taxable Wage Base to Rise in 2020

Minnesota’s unemployment-taxable wage base is to be $35,000 for 2020, up from $34,000 for 2019, a spokesman for the state Department of Unemployment Insurance said Dec. 2.

Effective Jan. 1, 2020, unemployment tax rates for experienced employers are to range from 0.2% to 9.1%, unchanged from 2019, the spokesman told Bloomberg Tax in an email. The rates include a base rate of 0.1% and a workforce development assessment of 0.1%.

Each new employer is assessed a tax rate equal to the average tax rate for experienced employers in its industry category.
