New Hampshire Doubles Time for Employers to Object to Wage Claim

May 18, 2026, 5:31 PM UTC

New Hampshire employers will have 20 days to object to a claim for unpaid wages, up from 10 days, under a bill effective July 7.

When a wage claim is filed, the state labor department notifies the employer. The objection period begins the date the employer receives the notice from the state, under HB 1168.

Employees or the state labor department may file a wage claim against an employer within 36 months from the date wages were owed.

Gov. Kelly Ayotte (R) signed HB 1168 into law on May 8.
