New Uber Trial Ordered After Hung Jury in Misclassification Case

A Pennsylvania-based federal judge has called for a new trial in a long-running case over whether three Pennsylvania drivers for Uber Technologies Inc.‘s high-end rideshare service should be classified as independent contractors or employees.

Judge Michael M. Baylson of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania May 1 ordered a new trial in the case after the jury was unable to reach a verdict and ordered the issue to be reheard with specific instructions to prevent a similar scenario from playing out in the second trial.
