New York Payroll Mobility Tax Rates Changing July 1

New York is changing its metropolitan commuter transportation mobility tax rates effective July 1, under a provision in the state’s budget bill.

The MCTMT applies to an employer’s quarterly payroll expenses. Employers are generally subject to the tax if they must withhold New York state income tax from wages and have at least $312,500 of quarterly payroll expenses in the metropolitan commuter transportation district, which consists of two zones.

The rates in Zone 1, which covers the five counties of New York City, will range from 0.055% to 0.895%, compared to the current rates of 0.11% to 0.6%, under AB ...
