New Zealand Increases Minimum Wages April 1

New Zealand’s minimum wages will increase under the country’s latest minimum wage order, which takes effect April 1.

The Minimum Wage Order 2023 increases the standard hourly minimum wage to NZ$22.70 (US$14.13), up from NZ$21.20. The hourly minimum wage for trainee and starting-out workers increased to NZ$18.16, up from NZ$16.96, the order said.

The order also provides minimum wages for employees paid on daily, weekly, and two-week periods.

Trainees are workers who are at least age 20 and are required by their employment contracts to participate in vocational training or apprenticeships.
