Nightclub’s Dancer Wage Claim Settlement Approved

A nightclub may settle wage and hour claims by dancers under the Fair Labor Standards Act, a federal district court said Oct. 3.

Three dancers filed a lawsuit claiming that the employer, G&M LLC of Alabama, violated the FLSA by improperly classifying them as independent contractors, failing to pay minimum wage, and keeping a portion of tips.

The district court approved a settlement of $23,800 for the dancers’ wage and hour claims. The settlement was reasonable given that there were no records of the hours worked, wages paid, or tips received, the court said.
