The hourly minimum wage in Oakland, California, will rise to $16.50 from $15.97 effective Jan. 1, 2024, according to a Nov. 14 update on the city’s website.
The minimum wage applies to employees who work at least two hours in the city in a workweek.
Hotel employees who work at hotels with at least 50 guest rooms or suites are subject to a separate, higher minimum wage. Employers must pay these employees at least $23.91 per hour, or $17.94 per hour if they also provide at least $5.97 per hour in health care benefits, according to the update.
