The hourly minimum wage for most employees in Oakland, California, will rise to $17.34 from $16.89 effective Jan. 1, 2026, according to an update on the city’s website.
Employees of hotels or their contractors are subject to a separate minimum wage, which for 2026 will be $18.85 if they receive health benefits or $25.14 if they do not, according to the website. Employers must pay at least $6.29 per hour toward health care benefits for employees and their dependents in 2026 to qualify for the lower minimum wage rate, according to the hotel worker minimum wage poster.
