Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries may not establish rules regulating work hours for minors that are more lax than the requirements under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, under a bill effective Jan. 1, 2027.
Specifically, HB 4013 limits the total hours a minor can work to the requirements under the FLSA as of Jan. 1, 2026.
The bureau may create rules that are more restrictive than FLSA requirements if new federal or state laws increase protections for minors, under the bill.
Gov. Tina Kotek (D) signed HB 4013 into law March 5.
