Oregon Permits Sick Leave Use for Blood Donation

June 12, 2025, 3:55 PM UTC

Oregon employees may use their sick leave to donate blood under a bill effective Jan. 1, 2026.

SB 1108 permits the use of sick leave for blood donation through a voluntary program approved or accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks or the American Red Cross.

Oregon’s sick leave law requires leave to be paid if employers have at least 10 employees. Employers with fewer than 10 employees may provide unpaid sick time to employees.

Gov. Tina Kotek (D) signed SB 1108 into law on May 28.
