Philadelphia Council Approves Domestic Worker Rights Bill (1)

Philadelphia domestic workers are to receive rest and meal break, paid time off, and retaliation workplace rights and protections, as well as written contracts, under an ordinance that was signed Nov. 12, 2019, by Mayor Jim Kenney (D) and is effective May 1, 2020.

The ordinance (No. 190607), which was unanimously passed Oct. 31 by the City Council, is to be publicly signed in a Nov. 26 ceremony, the mayor’s office said in a Nov. 21 email to Bloomberg Tax.
