The Philippine Senate Aug. 27 accepted for consideration Bill No. 1269, to increase the daily minimum wage rate for all employees and workers in the private sector. The bill includes measures to: 1) increase the minimum wage rate by 300 Philippine pesos (US$5.25) per day; and 2) impose a fine of 50,000 pesos (US$876) to 100,000 pesos (US$1,752) plus punitive damages and legal fees, or imprisonment from two to four years, for noncompliance by any person, corporation, trust, firm, partnership, association, or entity.
