Proposed Paid Leave Program Called Too Onerous for Treasury (1)

The House tax-writing panel approved a spending bill that calls for as many as 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave as Republicans questioned whether the U.S. Treasury Department, tasked with overseeing the program, could handle “the size and scope” of it.

The House Ways and Means Committee advanced the leave portion of the spending bill in a 24-19 vote, moving forward one component of a sweeping $3.5 trillion spending package that anchors President Joe Biden’s social policy agenda.
