Puerto Rico Releases 2023 Form 499R-2/W-2PR Filing Specifications

Electronic filing specifications for 2023 Puerto Rico withholding statements were released Oct. 5 by the territory’s treasury department.

The specifications for Form 499R-2/W-2PR, Withholding Statement, now require employees leased or assigned to work as direct employees to be indicated as such. A direct employee is a Puerto Rico resident working as an employee for a business that has a tax exemption under the Economic Incentives for the Development of Puerto Rico Act.

Additionally, the specifications now list all the exempt salary codes that are reported on Form 499R-2/W-2PR. The date of birth must be reported for employees benefiting from the ...
