Queensland Excludes Large Employers From Payroll Tax Reduction

Large employers were excluded starting July 1 from the payroll tax reduction Queensland allows employers outside the Australian state’s metro areas in an act that received assent June 18.

The Revenue and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 prevents employers that pay more than A$350 million (US$235,716,250) in taxable wages in Queensland in a financial year from benefiting from the payroll tax reduction that the state gives to employers in regional Queensland. The monthly equivalent is A$29,166,666.

The state defines “regional Queensland” as statistical areas outside the Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast metro areas. A regional employer must ...
