Rhode Island to Create Training Program for Child Work Permits

June 29, 2022, 8:40 PM UTC

Rhode Island children ages 14 and up will have to complete a training program in order to receive a work permit, under a bill Gov. Dan McKee (D) signed June 15 that went into effect upon signing.

The training program will be virtual and last no longer than three hours, the bill (H.B. 6652) states. The program will address workers’ rights, workplace health and safety, and workers’ compensation.

The state labor and training department will be responsible for the cost and content of the training program, according to the bill.
