Scotland Gets Extra Bank Holiday June 15

An extra bank holiday for Scotland will take place June 15, the day after their first game in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, the Scottish government said Feb. 5.

The proposal for the holiday by Scottish First Minister John Swinney was confirmed after a royal proclamation was approved by King Charles III, the government said in a news release.

“As is the case with other bank holidays in Scotland, there is no law requiring banks or any other businesses to close,” the government said. “Employer policy regarding bank holidays will be set out in contracts of employment.”
