South Africa Increases Minimum Wages March 1

South Africa’s standard hourly minimum wage is to increase March 1, the country’s labor ministry said in a notice Feb. 21.

The standard hourly minimum wage is to increase to 25.42 rand (US$1.39), up from 23.19 rand, the notice said.

The notice also specifies minimum wages for expanded public works programs, contract cleaning, and wholesale and retail.

The minimum wage for expanded public works programs increased to 13.97 rand per hour, up from 12.75 rand. Contract cleaners’ minimum wages increased to 25.50 or 27.97 rand per hour, up from 23.27 or 25.22 rand per hour, except in KwaZulu-Natal, where minimum ...
