South Africa Updates Domestic Per Diems, Travel Rates

The South African Revenue Service updated domestic per diem and travel allowances under several notices published in the country’s gazette Feb. 28 ahead of the March 1 start of its new tax year.

Domestic per diem rates increased to 176 rand (US$9.61) for incidental costs or 570 rand for both meals and incidental costs, up from 169 or 548 rand, the agency said. When an employee spends part of a work day away from their usual place of work, the per diem rate of 176 rand applies for both meals and incidental costs.
