Stalled Labor, Mine Safety Nominees Advanced by Senate Panel

The Senate’s labor committee advanced a slate of President Joe Biden’s nominations for labor and mine safety agencies Tuesday, clearing a hurdle for nominees that weren’t confirmed in last year’s split chamber.

The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 12-9 to advance Jessica Looman’s nomination to serve as the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division administrator. Looman, currently the principal deputy for the division, failed in a vote last month due to a technicality.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska.) offered the sole Republican vote.
