Sweden Tax Agency Explains Tax Rules for Swedish Pensioners in Portugal, Greece Due to Termination of DTAs

The Swedish Tax Agency Nov. 29 explained the tax rules for Swedish pensioners in Portugal and Greece due to the termination of DTAs, effective Jan. 1, 2022. The tax agency explained that: 1) Swedish private occupational pensioners living in Portugal or Greece must pay Swedish tax on their pension; 2) Swedish pensioners living in Portugal or Greece having an untaxed private occupational pension will be subject to a 25 percent withholding tax; 3) taxpayers in Sweden may attract higher taxation on dividends, interest, and royalty income that comes from Greece and Portugal; and 4) income is taxable to the extent ...
