Switzerland voted to enshrine the availability of cash in its constitution, assenting to a push designed to guard against the demise of physical money.

More than 73% backed a government plan for the legal change, according to final results on Sunday. A similar suggestion from a group called the Swiss Freedom Movement only received 45.6% support.

Polls ahead of the plebiscite had indicated that the government’s proposal had more popular appeal. Turnout was slightly over 55%.
