Swiss Supreme Court Validates Zürich Minimum Wage Ordinances

Minimum wage ordinances for the cities of Zürich and nearby Winterthur were found to be valid by Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court in rulings published June 10, overturning a 2024 decision from the canton of Zürich’s administrative court.

The rulings for Zürich (German) and Winterthur (German) found that each city’s ordinance was compatible with the canton of Zürich’s laws and constitution and that the ordinances represent an allowable exercise of municipal power even without specifically having a basis in the cantonal constitution.
