Tennessee is adopting compensable time laws to align with existing policies for the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, under a bill that will go into effect on July 1.
For state wage-hour purposes, compensable time for employees does not include the time spent traveling to and from the place of work, under HB 2110. Employees also need not be compensated for performing activities that are either preliminary or postliminary to the principal activity or that require insubstantial or insignificant amounts of time beyond their work schedule.
