Truckers Aiding Dorian Relief Gain Reprieve of Drive-Time Rules

Hours-of-service requirements were temporarily waived for truckers directly assisting with relief efforts related to Hurricane Dorian, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said Aug. 29.

The regional emergency declaration, which was to remain in effect until possibly Sept. 28, applied to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the administration said in a notice.

The notice covers truckers supporting storm-related relief efforts by transporting supplies, goods, equipment, and fuel; transporting people to and from the affected areas; and providing other emergency services are exempted from the hours-of-service ...
