The need for greater flexibility and discretion in decisions related to driving times and rest periods were recurring themes among truckers’ comments Aug. 23 on proposed rules covering hours of service.
The proposed rulemaking may change drivers’ workday and rest-break requirements.
Dividing a proposed 30-minute rest-break requirement into breaks of 10 minutes to 15 minutes that could be used at the discretion of drivers would be healthier and more accurately reflect the reality of drivers’ time on the road, speakers said.
