A statutory entitlement to unpaid carer’s leave takes effect in the UK on Dec. 4 after a commencement instrument was issued Nov. 29.
The leave entitlement was introduced by the Carer’s Leave Act 2023, which received assent May 24. The act amends the Employment Rights Act 1996 to require at least one week of unpaid leave in a 12-month period for an employee to provide or arrange long-term care for a “dependent.”
