US Virgin Islands Repays Federal Unemployment Loan

The US Virgin Islands repaid the principal on its outstanding federal unemployment loan and is close to fully repaying the interest on the loan, according to a May 8 Department of Labor press release.

The final principal repayment was $11,888,166, but the US Virgin Islands still owes roughly $405,952.50 in outstanding interest, according to the press release. The department is working to fully repay the interest through an appropriation authorized under Act 9035, the territory’s 2026 budget bill that set aside $1,720,000 toward payment of the outstanding interest.
