A revised version of Vermont’s Form W-4VT, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate, was released Jan. 25 by the state tax department.
The new version of Form W-4VT includes an allowances worksheet for employees to determine how many allowances to claim. The form also allows employees to claim exemption from Vermont withholding.
The form and Vermont’s 2019 withholding instructions recommended that employees fill out the form. Employers may use the federal Form W-4 to calculate state withholding if Form W-4VT is not submitted, but underwithholding may result, the department said in the withholding instructions.
