Vietnam is to raise its minimum wages by an average of 5.5% in 2020, one of the lowest annual increases in an economy that since 2015 has had annual gross domestic product growth of more than 6%.
The National Wage Council proposed that the country’s minimum wages be increased by 150,000 Vietnamese dong (U.S. $6.45) to 240,000 Vietnamese dong (U.S. $10.32) per month, “corresponding to an increase of 5.1% to 5.7% depending on the region,” the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs said July 18 in a news release (Vietnamese).
