Washington Outlines Rules for Unemployment Benefit Charge Relief

Requirements for Washington employers to receive relief from virus-related unemployment benefit charges were released July 14 by the state Employment Security Department.

Eligible employers may apply for a portion of unemployment benefits related to the coronavirus outbreak to be charged to a state Covid-19 unemployment account instead of to the employer’s account, the department said on its website. The amount of relief available to individual employers is to be determined by the number of approved applications, total eligible benefit charges on all approved applications, and the $25 million available in the account, the department said.
